IGA grocer Dave Jackson and shopping spree winner Evelyn Bredemeier were both happy when she completed her “spree” through the local IGA store Friday morning. Mrs. Bredemeier managed to collect over $80 worth of groceries in the three-minute time limit. Her son Jim had been the winner, but all concerned felt that his mom would have a better idea of the value of groceries.

Robert L. Sellers, Florence and J. Kenneth Muse, Marion, have been appointed to the Marion County Committee of the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA).

Winners in the recent Marion Motor Center-sponsored Punt, Pass and Kick contest were: 12-year-olds Bill Turk, Devin Francis and David Richmond; 11-year-olds Brad Esslinger, Brian Bowers, and Danny Sherbert; 10-year-olds Greg Boyle, Randy Savage and Kevin Jirak; 9-year-olds Tim Jirak, Tim Richmond and Mike Kerns; and 8-year-old Jay Christensen.

Corps of Engineers men and equipment were busy last week and this week repairing damage along Mud Creek, the result of fast flood waters two weeks ago when the stream ran fast and full. The damage was created when Marion Dam held back the waters of the Cottonwood River, allowing Mud Creek to flow at a faster pace. Normally, prior to construction of the dam, which creates Marion Lake, the Cottonwood would hold back Mud Creek.

Dr. T.C. Ensey of Marion was one of the 3,500 family doctors in attendance at the annual convention of the American Academy of Family Physicians held last week in Denver, Colo.
