Contractors have been busy during the past week clearing approximately 200 trees from the banks of Luta Creek in Marion. A big load of rock also was dumped near the north end of Fourth Street to stop the bank from washing.

Marion businessmen again this year have invited all farmers and ranchers from the area to come and enjoy a bountiful steak dinner, free of charge, in appreciation for past patronage.

All elected officials in the Marion County Courthouse will receive 5.5 percent increases in salary, effective Jan. 1, 1974. The increase, authorized by the 1973 Kansas Legislature, will go into effect unless electors of the county object.

Paul Vinduska of Marion was elected secretary of the Kansas Federation of Taxpayers at a meeting held Friday in Hutchinson. Vinduska and Jim Peters, Lehigh, represented Marion County Taxpayers Association at the statewide meeting.

Two girls from Marion County will be starters on the Kansas State University girls’ basketball team, the Wildkittens. They are Marsha Poppe of Lincolnville and Rose Holm of Peabody.

Girl Scout Troop 63 met Nov. 13 with 15 girls and three leaders present. Newly elected officers are: Julie Kelsey, scribe; Kristine Kelsey, president; Gena Helmer, secretary; Darla Vogel, treasurer; Debra Rittgers, nurse, and Lori Hett and Theresa Wunsch, housekeepers.
