A winter storm of blizzard proportions hit Marion County Tuesday morning, following a night of high winds, rain and sleet. Snow began to fall at mid-morning all across the county, with heavier amounts in the northern sections. As much as six inches was reported in some areas.

Marion High School debaters continue their winning ways with Cindy Esslinger and Melissa Hett taking first place last weekend at the Winfield High School tournament. Marion, the only 2A school in the tournament, defeated 40 other schools. They defeated Manhattan High School in the final round of the event.

Reported in this issue are several courtesies complimenting Deborra Case, whose marriage to Bill Darrow will take place Dec. 29. A pottery shower was held at the home of Mrs. Roger “Bud” Hannaford on Nov. 26; a reception tea honored her at the home of Mrs. Ella Socolofsky on Dec. 1, and a shower of items for the bathroom was given at the home of Mrs. Roger W. Hannaford on Dec. 2.

Another new business started in Marion this week with the announcement by Ron Collins that he has opened his Collins Radio and TV shop at 422 East Main. The new store will handle a complete line of electronic equipment.

Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Hassinger and Mr. and Mrs. Al Riffel were hosts at the annual Lakeside Square Dance Club’s Christmas dinner party Sunday evening at Kingfisher’s Inn.
