The first baby of the year arrived Monday, Jan. 2, at St. Luke Hospital—even though there was none expected, no contest, or no prizes for Little Miss New Year. Dr. T.C. Ensey performed the delivery at 2:15 p.m. of little Carrie Koehn. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Newland Koehn of McPherson. According to Ensey, the family was traveling through Marion toward McPherson after the New Year holiday, when Mrs. Koehn went into labor.

Ted Hanschu is the winner of this year’s newspaper subscription contest. He is pictured as he tries out his new electronic printing calculator, which was the first prize. Other winners were Mrs. Cecil Medley of Tampa and Mrs. John Spinden of rural Elmdale.
After only three months of learning, 25 couples graduated Tuesday night from fundamentals class of square dancing. The class, taught by Bud and Jean Pierce, has been meeting in the city building basement since mid-September.
Tampa’s new ambulance has been delivered. The unit made its first emergency run Saturday with Gene Winkler, captain of the Marion crew, and Max Gough, ambulance director, accompanying the Tampa volunteer medical technicians.
