A brief shower July 6 brought Marion residents respite from the 100-plus degree temperatures. Ernest Meierhoff is pictured as he relaxed on his front porch swing at 201 Grant, enjoying the cool breeze.

Jim Hoch of Marion is one of more than 100 University of Kansas students touring Europe and earning college credit this summer as a participant in KU’s summer language institutes. Hoch is studying in Germany.

Bob Schmidt and Harvey Sanders are pictured as they repair a broken power line in the 300 block of Elm Street. Heavy winds caused a limb to come crashing down, taking the line in a shower of sparks and flame. Power was restored to affected homes only 45 minutes after the break occurred.

This issue’s “Personality Profile” deals with Tom Evert, business administrator of St. Luke Hospital for the Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society of Fargo, North Dakota.

Marion’s cable television system should be fully operational by July 19, according to a report by Paul Edins of Utility Consultants, Inc. Edins predicts that the present 250 subscribers will double within a couple of years.

Grand opening will be Friday, July 14, at The County Seat. Sign up for the drawing to be held July 29. First prize is a 17” Zenith table model color television; second, 9’x12’ Angel carpet; third, $50 gift certificate; 4th, $25 gift certificate.
