Using an acetylene torch, Ern Hett is pictured as he demonstrates his artistic copper craft for members of Marion Chamber of Commerce who visited the Copper Shed at Hett’s home Friday evening after a picnic in Central Park. His hobby produces many decorative items made from copper, wood, and other materials.

Pictured are the big rocks on a hillside about three miles west of Marion. Formerly outlining “Diamond X,” the name of the Rex Siebert ranch, was changed to form the name of a popular thirst-quenching beverage. Siebert said, commenting on the sign, “Some kids were probably just having fun.”

Marion High School’s football Warriors have been tagged the team to beat in the upcoming 1978 Cottonwood Valley League season.

Three Marion County Lake youths were top anglers in the kids’ fishing derby held Saturday at the county lake. Kama Buckley finished first with a total catch of over three pounds. Leann Snelling place second with 13 ounces, followed by younger brother Dean with 20 ounces.

Mayor Peggy Blackman, riding in the comfort of an enclosed tractor cab, led Marion city commissioners in the county fair parade. Larry Loomis and Les Henderson, commissioners, also rode in tractors. They chose to ride in tractors because they wanted to represent Marion as a farm implement center.
