Marion City commissioners in regular session Monday afternoon voted in favor of the proposed design and relocation of US-56 highway, with reservations.

The Youngtown community looked and sounded like World War III had arrived Monday afternoon when a gas gathering plant a mile and a half east of the Youngtown church blew sky high.

Kevin Jirak and Aaron Hett combined for 47 points Friday, leading the Marion Warriors boys’ varsity basketball team to an 89 to 56 knockout of the Centre Cougars. Jirak scored 23 points and Hett added 22.

Jury trial for Timothy Newfield, charged with murder and kidnapping in connection with the shotgun slaying of Peabody State Bank teller Grant Avery, will begin Monday in Bourbon County District Court.

Gail Regier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Regier of Marion, is one of several Tabor College students who are spending part of a four-week minimester interterm in New York City.

They will attend several Broadway productions and visit the World Trade Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the U.N., and the Statue of Liberty.
