Good news dominated the Marion City Commission meeting Monday afternoon.

Mayor Peggy Blackman announced the federal government has approved a portion of the town’s pre-application for a community development grant.

The grant would be for new water mains in the Valley and rehabilitation of housing in the Valley portion of town.

Jackie Richmond was crowned 1980 Queen of Courts before the homecoming game on Friday. Her escort was Warrior senior forward Doug Webb. Attendants, Janice Wiens and Lori Hett, were escorted by Kevin McGahee and Brian Allen.

The Marionettes Chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association met Jan. 19 at the Owl Car Café. Summer camping plans were discussed. Members attending were the Jack Bowyers, Junior Bredemeiers, Dean Dukes, Morris N. Ehrlichs, Roger Giesbrechts, and Ralph Mathews.

Marion Ogden’s Middle School 6th grade students enjoyed a Mexican fiesta Thursday that included a spicy feast, various games, costume contest, and a pink flamingo pinata. First place winners in the costume contest were Michael Bina and Tonya Johnson. Isabel Christina Medina and Roger Hudlin were second.
