Joan Bowers has been hired as city clerk. She will replace Lucille Britain who has resigned effective April 19. The widow of the late Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Harold Bowers, she is a native of Marion and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klein.

The old Creamery Bridge on Commercial Street is gone, but a new culvert-type structure will take its place. Tom Grosse is building the new crossing for the City of Marion.

The 20th annual Girl Scout father-daughter box supper was held March 11 in the American Legion hall. Scouts receiving recognition for selling over 100 boxes of Girl Scout cookies were Marnie Bina, Kelly Enos, Kristi Enos, Wendy Hett, and Ramona Zeller.

Marion High School’s representatives to Girls’ State this summer will be Gena Helmer, Jan Nuss, and Debbie Rittgers. Alternates are Linda Williams and Joan Hiebert.

Dr. John Slifer, highly regarded Florence osteopathic physician, will be honored for 45 years of service to the community at a public event from 2 to 5 p.m. March 29.
