Marion County has been selected as the “pilot county” in Kansas to study and work out details of a disaster survival plan. A Civil Defense “Kansas Plan for Survival” meeting will be held next week. A large number of state and federal officials will meet in Marion Oct. 14 and 15.
The Grand Championship winning Angus steer shown by Carol Louis of Florence at the Kansas National Junior Livestock Show in Wichita sold Thursday morning for the top price of $1.25 per pound. It was purchased by Walter Schimmel for the Lassen Hotel. Total price was $1,237.50.
Miss Donna Kelsey started the latter part of September as a clerk in the office of the probate judge and county court.
The educational trip to Kansas City for Marion County schoolchildren and their sponsors is signed up to capacity, reports Mrs. Viola Klassen, county superintendent. Six train cars will be added to the regular Santa Fe streamliner and will pick up students at both Peabody and Florence, returning them the same day.
