Starting this Friday a new bus line will serve Marion County giving east-west connections and running from Great Bend to Emporia. The terminal for the line will be at the Marion Pharmacy.

Two of Marion’s barbershops have announced this week that they will start taking earlier closing hours beginning “Saturday. The two are Beaman’s and Steve’s barbershops. The third shop, Al Holder’s, will continue to close as previously on Saturday nights.

Sheriff Ezra Bernhardt, Marion marshal Charles Frans, and Hillsboro marshal Lee Westhafer were in Lawrence last week attending the annual peace officers’ training school.

Door prize winners at the 10th anniversary Cook Motor Company celebration were Ervin Kline, Marion, 1st, gold watch in cuff links; Dorothy Stockman, Wichita, 2nd, Oneida silver set; William Seibel, Peabody; and Paul Williams, James Jones, Irene Smith, Ronald Break, Gene Boettcher, Mrs. Rudy Konarik, Marion.

Pool manager Floyd Yaussi, recreation director Jerry Dyck, and the City of Marion combined to give the 60 or more boys on the Midget and PeeWee ball teams a free swim Thursday at the municipal pool.

Rosse Case won medalist honors Saturday at the annual American Legion countywide tournament held at Marion Country Club. He shot a 71 in the 18-hole competition. In handicap play, John Brose was winner in the blind bogey with a total of 88 and a net of 64.
