Ron Oelschlager, one of Marion High School’s outstanding senior student-athletes, got a very fine recognition this week from the University of Kansas in the form of a four-year scholarship.

The big annual spring Cottonwood Valley Poultry Barbecue and Jamboree will be held in Marion Jan. 31. Sponsoring organizations are the Chamber of Commerce and the Marion County Extension Service.

The school administration announces that Hill Grade students will attend classes in the new building beginning after the Christmas-New Year’s vacation.

Ben Klenda of Route 4, Marion, was one of three members of St. Procopius College 1960 grid team that won honors on the Catholic College All-American Football Team for small colleges. A junior, Klenda won honorable mention as an end.

Rex Siebert, Marion cattleman, has consigned cattle to the 1961 National Western Hereford Sale in Denver to be held Jan. 17.

At least four big dances are planned in the area for New Year’s Eve. Dances to be held in Marion will be at the Marion Country Club, the American Legion hall and the Odd Fellows hall. The Knights of Columbus will sponsor a dance at the hall in Pilsen.

The 1955 graduating class of Marion High School held its five-year reunion Dec. 26 at Marion City Building.
