The new $300,000 ;Marion Elementary School opened for classes this Tuesday following the Christmas-New Year holiday. From all reports, everyone is highly pleased with this newest addition to the Marion school system.

Two new county officers will be sworn into office next Monday noon. They are Sheriff Earl Pankratz and County Attorney Edwin G. Westerhaus.

Diana Goertz, Happy Hustlers, will be among the 65 4-H members taking part in the state cherry pie contest at Wichita this Saturday.

Lynn Christensen, Marion implement dealer, was installed Monday as president for the coming year of the Marion Kiwanis Club. Walt Oelschlager will be first vice president; Robert Musgrave, second vice president; Alex Case Jr, treasurer; and Bill Meyer, secretary.

Misses Tressie Miles and Donna Jost announce this week that they will teach twirling on Saturdays to interested girls.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Navrat accompanied a group of friends from Emporia to New Orleans and the Sugar Bowl game of New Year’s. They went by train and report having a wonderful time.

Three Lincolnville boys were slightly injured in a one-car accident Wednesday evening one mile east of Centre High School. Driver of the car was Allen Steely, 17. Two passengers with Steely were Albert Riffel, 17, and a cousin, Dennis Riffel, 15, both of whom were cut about the face when the collision with a small culvert-type bridge broke their glasses. All three were treated at Centre High School where the Marion-Centre basketball game had just been completed.
