Some 60 million voters went to the polls Tuesday and elected John F. Kennedy to be the next president of the United States. John Anderson Jr. was elected governor of Kansas by a big plurality.

Mrs. James Richmond was guest of honor at a stork shower Nov. 3 at the Clarence Conyers home. Hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. Clarence Conyers, Mrs. Willard Conyers, and Mrs. Glen Conyers.

William “Tuck” Tucker is the new junior Kiwanian for the month of November. He replaces Ron Oelschlager who was junior Kiwanian during October.

Mrs. Emil Remmers received $50 in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Gene Hasenfratz, Marion, received $30; P.F. Noone, Marion, received $5; Eugene Christensen, Marion, missed $5; and Mrs. Jake Oblander, Marion, missed $5. First prize at next week’s drawing will be $50; 2nd, $15; 3rd, $5; 4th, $10; and 5th, $10.

Work is progressing rapidly this week on the new curb and gutter surfacing on several blocks in the developing southeast residential part of the city.

Corn pickers are buzzing away in many fields, completing the corn harvest. Fields of milo are still waiting to be harvested and most of the early planted wheat fields are quite heavy in foliage. The cold, crisp air, the bare trees, wild geese honking overhead, and dusk coming quickly let us know that November is here.
