Chester H. Lauck, better known as “Lum” of the popular radio and movie team of “Lum and Abner” will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the Marion County Soil Conservation District January 31.

“Kansas Centennial, 1861-1961” is the timely theme of the community “Youth Banquet” to be held January 28 in the Marion City Building.

The Brownie Scout Troop composed of second graders Sandra Anderson, Debbie Case, Shelley Batt, Cynthia Highsmith, Debra Vogt, Denise Wiens, Ginger Helmer, Brenda Helmer, Ruth Morse and Pamela Slusser visited the Southwestern Bell Telephone office on Friday of last week. The girls were taken on a tour of the office and received treats and favors of miniature telephone key rings.

This week’s “Look Who’s Here,” the column announcing births, reports the following arrivals: a daughter, Penny, born Jan. 13 to Mr. and Mrs. G.E. DeLong of Wichita, a daughter, Janet Sue, born Jan. 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gillet of Peabody, and a daughter, Janelle Kay, born Jan. 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Leland Albrecht of Lincolnville.

The Florence Board of Education voted last week to withdraw from the Cottonwood Valley League effective at the end of the school year.

An inter-church celebration of Kansas Day will be Jan. 29 at the Christian church. A large attendance is anticipated.
