Government attorneys filed condemnation proceedings last week in U.S. District Court in Topeka against 506 acres in Marion County for use in the Marion dam and reservoir project.

State Highway troopers and sheriff’s officers were kept busy Friday covering accidents, mainly caused by slick highways, and assisting motorists.

The big Santa Fe Trail Centennial Caravan will be in Marion at noon May 11 and plans are underway to make it an outstanding affair. The caravan, which is taking a two-week trek from one end of the Santa Fe Trail near Kansas City to the other at Santa Fe, N.M., along U.S. 56, will parade here that day. Marion, Hillsboro, and other cities along the trail will have elements in the parade.

Births announced in this issue include a daughter, Debra Kay, born Feb. 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vinduska; a son, Michael Ray, born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rogers on Feb. 17; a daughter, Laurie Mae, born Feb. 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ratzloff; and a yet unnamed daughter born Feb. 23 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Richmond.

At least three new drilling locations have been staked in Marion County within the past few days with activity already starting on them.

Marion School Superintendent Robert L. Musgrave was offered a renewal contract by the Marion Board of Education at a special meeting Thursday night. It was accepted, returning him for the 1961-62 school term.
