The title, “From Hope to Heritage,” has been selected by the title committee for the big four-day spectacular to be held Aug. 2-5 during the Marion Centennial celebration. The title committee said they tried to sum up, in four words, a hundred years of Marion history.
A big chicken barbecue and a gigantic street parade will be highlights of the Santa Fe Trail celebration in Marion Tuesday, starting at 11:30 a.m. with the big full-meal dinner being served in Marion’s scenic Central Park.
Anita Schlehuber, whose birthday occurred May 6, was guest of honor at a slumber and birthday party Friday evening at the home of her parents. Those invited were Karen Higgins, Jeannine Skibbe, Sharon Youk, Ruth Lais, Betty Tipton, Jean Morse, Helen Olsen, Mary Melton, Cheryl Caselman, Rose Marie Loveless, Marianne Waltner, and Sharon Nelson.
During the month of April, 708 meals were cooked and served at the county jail. Not a simple chore, says jailer Virgil Fisher. A couple of weeks ago, the jail population reached thirteen. Now it is back down to two.
The teachers of Bown-Corby School regret that, due to an oversight, the names of the Kansas Jackrabbits were omitted from the printed programs at the Prairie Panorama last Friday evening. They want those jumping little creatures, which helped to add so much atmosphere to the Kansas landscape, to have recognition for a superb performance. They were Brad Case and Susan Wood.
