The first tabulation of votes for the Marion Centennial “Queen” show a great deal of interest is being generated and the contest is very close among the top contestants. The top six candidates in this tabulation are Jean Holmes, Mary Ann Avery, Dorothy Youk, Gerry Hett, Betty Richardson, and Louise Wood.

The Strassburg Baptist Church, which was organized July 16, 1911, with 30 charter members, is proud to be able to announce its 50th anniversary celebrations. There will be three days of services July 14, 15, and 16.

Mrs. J.P. Hoffman, Mrs. Roger Hannaford, Mrs. Bert McCulloch, Mrs. Alex Case Sr., Mrs. W.H. Carpenter, and Mrs. Alta Rains attended the production of the “Kansas Story” at Wichita Sunday evening.

Amy Lanes King died July 7 at St. Luke Hospital. She and her husband Lindsey came to Marion in 1911. They performed janitorial and other services until disabilities forced them to discontinue. People of Marion will long remember Mrs. King for her faithful attention to any task undertaken and for her friendly and courteous treatment of her employers, friends, and all people in the community. She served several Marion families through three generations.

Hill’s Pottery Shop, featuring Frankoma pottery, will open soon in Marion, it is announced this week by Mrs. G.W. Hill.
