The many centennial activities and extra tourist features throughout Kansas this year have given the state its biggest year in tourist travel says the Kansas Centennial Commission. Marion’s Old Settlers Centennial Celebration early in August was among those activities contributing to this summer’s big visitor traffic.

Mary J. Klenda of Marion and Nancy L Vinduska of Lincolnville have entered nurses training at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita. The girls are among 70 freshmen students, one of the largest classes in the school’s history.

Marion’s New Motel Mainliner hopes to be open for business sometime next week. A public open house is being planned, with details and time to be announced.

Kendra and Kenny Lundgren will celebrate their sixth birthday Thursday at the City Building. Those invited to the party are Teresa Case, Cheryl Cox, Roxann Helmer, Lisa Holmes, Karen Pankratz, Susan Peters, Cynthia Swain, Teresa Turk, Christy Vogt, Becky Wood, Dotty Lentz, Jeannie Widler, Don Bredemeier, Richard Britain, Mike Colgin, Mike Ewert, Robbie Cook, Chris Costello, Eddie Griffith, Pat Heinz, Jeff Longhofer, Randy Mott, Andy Ferrell, and Gary Hill.

The Lakeside Square Dance Club begins its 11th year in October with these newly elected officers: W.J. Hassinger, president, and Mrs. Gordon Wolf secretary.
