JANUARY 7, 1960

Little Miss New Year of 1960 was born at 7:42 a.m. Jan. 1 at St. Luke Hospital. She is Cheri Lynn Hess, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hess of Peabody.

Another fine new service business in Marion, the “Quick ‘n’ Thrift” self-service laundry will hold a grand opening January 9. The new business is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill.

Miss Lillie Keazer has retired after 42 years with the telephone company, the last 35 of which she has been chief operator. Taking on the chief operator duties is Mary A. Sergeant, who has been chief operator at Stafford since 1953.

The Junior Class is sponsoring a carnival at the high school gymnasium this Saturday. Carnival Queen and King candidates are Jean Dody and John Higgins, seniors; Tressie Miles and Jerry Domke, juniors Jean Williams and Gary Maltbie, sophomores; and Karen Higgins and Don Stenzel, freshmen.

Edward Frickey was installed Monday as president of Marion Kiwanis Club.
