The three lumberyards in Marion this week decided they would remain closed on Saturday afternoon beginning April 2. However, stores will remain open until 9 p.m. as a convenience for farmers, who take advantage of the long daylight hours, yet will want to come to town to shop after chores on Saturday night.

The endless snowfall has kept school kids making the most of every opportunity to have a good time. Snowball fights and general horseplay are the order of the day in times like this. Pictured having a snowball fight in front of Central Park are Raymond Broz. Wally Bledsoe, and Larry Heidel. Their opponents are George Jackson, Bryan Alexander, and Roger Jackson.

The Record celebrates St. Patrick’s birthday with a green ink thumbprint in the right hand color of the front page. It is hand-stamped there by Joan Meyer as each paper rolls off the press.

Henry Jirak of Marion announces the engagement of his daughter, Gemma, to L. Edwards Davies, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Davies of Lawrence. No wedding date has been set.
