The first step in a long-range program which will bring dial telephones to Marion occurred this week when Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. announced the purchase a lot on the southeast corner of Lawrence and Locust streets for the site of a building to house the dial equipment.

State Highway Trooper Rex Clothier will take over new duties in this area April 1 when he moves to Marion as a replacement for Trooper B.C. Powell.

A sure sign of spring is near is that the Dairy Queen will open Friday.

Construction will start soon at Southwestern College, Winfield, on a fine new track, to be called Monypeny Track, named for W.W. Monypeny, who went to Southwestern direct from Marion High School where, as principal and coach, he and his “Warriors” gained statewide football fame in the ’20s.

Marion High School’s one-act play, “The Wall,” received top rating Friday at the district Speech and Dramatics Festival at Clay Center. Students in the play are Dennis Navrat, Cinda Hauser, Jim Williams, Warren Vogel, Beverly Pankratz, Bud Kelsey, and Gary Ford.
