Plans have been started, and an organizational meeting called, to swing Marion County into action for a big Centennial celebration in 1961 in cooperation with the statewide celebration next year.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mullen each year furnish a great deal of pleasure for neighbors, friends and passers-by, as well as for themselves, with their custom of decorating an “Easter Egg Tree.”

Girls elected as Marion High School team cheerleaders for next year are Donna Jost, Deanna Klenda, Tressie Miles, Marianne Waltner, and Julia Wooldridge.

Tom Shirley of Marion was seriously injured Tuesday evening when run over and drug by an automobile in the 300 block on Commercial Street in Emporia. Tom received a broken arm, broken pelvis, extensive burns to the left leg, and many cuts and bruises. His mother, Mrs. Silas Weidenbener, reports he is now off the critical list but still reported in a serious condition.

Barbara Musgrave, Marion County’s spelling contest winner, will go to Topeka this Saturday to compete in the state contest. Barbara is the daughter of Superintendent Bob Musgrave and Mrs. Musgrave.
