Marion County’s one-, two-, and three-teacher schools will hold graduation exercises May 13 at the Marion City Auditorium. Thirty-six eighth grade students will receive diplomas. Glenn Cunningham, well-known speaker and former track star, will present the address.

Representatives from organizations over the county will meet at the Marion City Building Thursday to start plans for the county’s participation in the Kansas Centennial celebration in 1961.

The annual Bown-Corby “May Fete,” featuring all the students of the kindergarten and grades 1 through 3, will be held Friday evening at the Marion gymnasium.

A half inch of rain that fell over a period of two days last week has proven beneficial to the growing crops. A sharp freeze Saturday night did considerable damage to gardens, though. Unprotected tomato plants were frozen and the beans suffered considerably.

Juniors at Tampa High School entertained the seniors, faculty, and school board members Wednesday evening at the annual junior-senior prom, “The Oriental Garden,” held at the Catholic Hall.

Floyd Yaussi, high school basketball and golf coach and industrial arts teacher, has been hired by the city commission to manage the municipal swim pool this season.
