A house-to-house canvass is planned for Monday evening to call every resident’s attention to the special election July 7 concerning the vote for a new elementary school building.

A new business will open in Marion Aug. 1 when “Jo and Jim’s” children shop will start operations at 113 S. Third. The shop will handle children’s clothing from infant to size 6x in both girl and boy lines. It will be operated by Mrs. Kent Richmond and is named after her children, Brenda Jo and Jimmie.

Jerry Higgins was the overall winner of the Marion Country Club tournament Sunday afternoon. He was medalist winner with a score of 76 on the 18-hole event. Runner-up was Bob Hoover with 78.

Richard Soyez was burned on the arm, back, and ears Monday morning, and three or four others luckily escaped injury in a flash explosion of gases from a road oil tank truck. The accident occurred at a county highway department lot at the Van Scoik corner, two miles west of Aulne. The men were transferring asphalt road oil from a transport tank though a heater unit to a storage tank trailer in preparation of “shooting” on the road.
