Elementary school at Youngtown, District No. 61, will not be held this fall and the some 9 to 13 students in the district will attend school in Marion.
The rainfall in Marion now stands at 8.24 inches over normal, much of this excess recorded during the month of July. The total so far this year is 25.95 inches, with the normal through July at 17.71.
Vernon L. Bowers, a native of Marion, assumed duties last Wednesday as a patrolman for the Newton Police force. Bowers was a dispatcher for the Kansas State Highway Patrol at Valley Center since 1958.
Everett Burkhead, well-known Marion resident, returned home Friday after attending his third summer session at the Kansas State School for the Blind at Kansas City, Kan.
Marion Little Leaguers lost their opening game Monday evening at Peabody. The Marion squad is comprised of the following players: George Jackson, Bruce Hett, Chris Hauser, Gene Schimpf, Ricky Bell, Bob Boese, Bob Raleigh, Rich Winter, Bruce Powell, Larry Ensey, Dick Robinson, Bob Hoch, Ed Parrack, Gilbert Johnson, Steve Richardson, and Jim Weidenbener.
