The first real snowfall of the season, followed by a genuine cold wave, brought winter to Marion County in full force over the weekend. Temperatures of zero and below have persisted all this week with an accumulated snowfall of six inches.
The seventh and eighth grade vocal ensemble were entertaining guests Dec. 12 for the evening meeting of B.P.W. Members of the ensemble are Patty Plenert, Jackie Thomas, Barbara Musgrave, Carmen Hayen, Roxanne Zerger, Kathy Westerhaus, Margaret Bass, Judy Pankratz, Mary Westerhaus, Verna Helmer, Rae Ellen Carr, Marian Lawrence and Pat Warneke and Kris Conyers, accompanist and assistant.
Wayne Varenhorst, owner of Van’s A.R.M. store, was elected Monday as president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce for the coming year.
Kingfisher Inn, popular eating-place at the Marion County Lake has again received national recognition in the new 1962 edition of Duncan Hines’ travel book, “Adventures in Good Eating.”
Marion friends of Robert Melton will be watching him Saturday at the Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston, Texas. He will be playing trombone in the KU band.
Thursday night in the Marbowlettes Bowling League, Lila Ensey set the top mark at 172/475. She was tied for hi-10 by Shirley Nienstedt. The Farmers & Drovers team leads the league with 38½-13½.
