Richard Morse, Marion High School senior, was among 43 Kansas high school seniors named this week for University of Kansas Honor Scholarships. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Morse.

Mrs. Velma Bredemeier of Norborne, Mo., announces the engagement of her daughter, Beverly, to Robert Jirak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Jirak of Marion. An April wedding is being planned.

Miss Rosalie Dohner became the bride of William A. Carr Jan. 14 at Marion Evangelical United Brethren Church. Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Dohner are the bride’s parents. The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Max Carr.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Duke entertained the County Health Office personnel with dinner Tuesday evening at the Wheel Inn Café in Hillsboro. Dessert was served at the new home of Dr. and Mrs. P.D. Ens and all enjoyed viewing the new home. Others included in the party were Mrs. Kathryn Swan and Mrs. Dorothy Tate.

Old man winter continues to keep a tight grip on this part of the state. Frozen water pipes, cars and tractors that will not start coughs, colds, and the flu are the order of the day.

Officers elected at the January 15 meeting of Twentieth Century Club were Mrs. Bill Meyer, president; Mrs. W.G. Higgins, vice president; Mrs. Edward Costello, secretary-reporter; Mrs. Ed Frickey, treasurer; and Mrs. Bob Musgrave, corresponding secretary.
