The old stone elevator, formerly the Marion Cooperative Equity, has been sold to Marion Equipment Co. It is now being torn down by the company. The lot will be leveled and a new building built by the owners of the local International Harvester agency.

Cynthia Batt, pretty 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Batt of Florence, was named “Poultry Queen” at the district meeting of the state poultry producers held here Tuesday.

Announcement was made this week that Roland Vogel has purchased the dairy product distribution business owned and operated by Arnold Schwemmer. The business serves stores and door-to-door customers in this area with Marion Creamery dairy products.

Winners in the Litterbug poster contest were announced this week. They are Mary Beth Kjellin, Gena Broz, Darrell Spencer, Wesley Bass, Shelley Hett, and Teresa Hornbeck. The students’ posters will be sent to district to be judged.

Five babies, all born at St. Luke Hospital this week, include George Paul, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Garcia of Florence, Steven Wayne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Jirak of Marion, Laurie Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Svoboda of Marion, and a little girl, yet unnamed, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Parrish of Burns.

Members of former telephone line No. 30 met at the Charles Kjellin home Friday evening for a potluck dinner.
