Mrs. Ralph Popp and Larry Bartel have been selected as safe drivers of the month by the United Traffic Safety Commission of Marion. The selection was based on safe and courteous driving during the month of January. Each will receive a certificate and a prize of five gallons of gasoline.

Lance Alexander was guest of honor at a birthday party Tuesday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Alexander. Present to help him celebrate his 10th birthday were Dean Ensey, Roger Jackson, Marc Hauser, Roger Bennett, David Gooding, Terry Conyers, and Tommy Thomas.

Mr. and Mrs. Ira Penner, Mrs. Eva Siebert, Mrs. Maude Firebaugh, Miss Dorothy Pollitt, and Mrs. Jennie Bassler attend the concert given by Van Cliburn on Sunday at the Wichita Forum.

The 8th grade basketball team defeated Peabody Thursday by the score of 32-19. George Jackson and J.R. Weinheimer each had 11 points.

Karen Siebert, Marsha Childs, Donna Wall, Connie Allen, and Charlotte Fillipp enjoyed a slumber party Saturday night at the home Verna Helmer. The girls had a taffy pull Saturday evening and accompanied the Helmers to church Sunday morning.

The publication of a new musical composition, “Twilight” was completed this week and is of special interest to Marion countians. It is the work of two Marion women. The lyrics are by Jean Holmes and the music by Mary Ann Avery.
