Nearly 1,000 young people in Marion County have enrolled in Red Cross “Learn to Swim” classes at the three municipal pools in the county. Over 400 have registered for the two sessions in Marion, over 300 in Peabody, and nearly 300 in Hillsboro.

Cub Scouts of Den 4, under the guidance of their den mother, Mrs. Ray Carr, enjoyed an all-night campout last Monday in the backyard of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Plenert. Cubs who camped out were Raymond Carr, Terry Plenert, Eric Meyer, Terry Holt, Jimmy Bell, and Craig Smith.

Seven 1962 graduates of Marion High School recently visited the Kansas State Teachers College campus in Emporia to complete classification testing and enrollment procedures. The students are Thomas Good, Robert Klose, Stephen Greenemeyer, Richard Varenhorst Jr., Gary Maltbie, Arlyn Kinsey, and Larry Maltbie.

Janel Klose celebrated her 10th birthday Tuesday afternoon by treating the following to a swimming party: Donna Ewert, Vicki Boese, Diana Franklin, Sandy Turner, Becky Lentz, Patsy Wood, Shirley Helmer, and Janel’s brother, Mike Klose. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Eddie Klose after the party. She was assisted by Sylvia Helmer.
