Three Marion County high school students will attend a four-day citizenship seminar at Rock Springs 4-H Ranch from Aug. 21 to 25. The students are Mary Melton and Tim Colle of Marion and William Klassen of Lehigh.
Girl Scout Troop 72 of Hillsboro invited Troop 130 of Marion to a picnic and swim Aug. 14. Girls attending from Marion were Cathy Coe, Donna Ewert, Jeanette Giles, Patsy Wood, Becky Lentz, Janel Klose, Vickie Boese, Rita Lais, Shirley Helmer, Sandy Turner, Diana Franklin, and Sandy Wall.
Births announced in this issue include Eric Boyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Slocombe of Manhattan, born July 31; Renee Lynn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Pope of Grand Teton National Park, Moose, Wyo., born Aug. 6; Rodney Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmidt of Marion, born Aug. 10; Julie Kaye, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bina of Marion, born Aug. 14; and a daughter, yet unnamed, born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brenzikofer of Florence on Aug. 16.
Leslie Powell, Marion County Dodge dealer, was one of several men given the opportunity Monday to drive a “jet-powered” automobile. Powell drove the new Dodge “turbo” automobile, which has a jet turbine engine. Powell said it was a thrilling experience and feels that it points to things to come in the very near future.
