The Marion Warriors this week are ranked as the fifth place Class B football team in Kansas, according to the Topeka Capital. Fans disturbed over Marion’s being Class B should be reminded high school classifications were changed this past year. The largest 56 schools will be Class AA, the next 64 will be A, and the next 75 will be B. All the rest will be BB.

The storied “dead man’s bridge” on a little used county road at the south edge of Marion went out in the high water over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Miller of Lincolnville announce the engagement of their daughter, Harriet, to Laverne E. Bina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bina. A spring wedding is planned.

Mrs. Junior Bredemeier received $200 in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Other winners were Louis Kaiser, Lincolnville, $15 and Louise McFadden, Marion, $5. Cash Day drawings are at 2:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

Births announced this week include the following: Malina Renee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cather of Emporia; Connie Jo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCarty of Marion; Jamie Louise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ratzloff of Marion; a yet unnamed son of Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Allen of Marion; Cynthia Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kelsheimer of Florence; and a yet unnamed son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Silhan of Marion.
