Wilbur Melcher was re-elected president of the Marion Athletic Association Monday evening at the annual meeting of that group. Also re-elected were John Just, vice president, and Wayne Colle, secretary-treasurer.

A real old-fashioned Italian dinner is planned this Sunday by the men’s society of St. Mark Catholic Church as a fund-raising event. The meal will be prepared from a genuine Italian spaghetti recipe, which has been handed down through generations and secured by Father Gerald Pathe.

Marion County residents are literally flocking to the clinics distributing the Sabin oral vaccine in the statewide campaign to “wipe out polio.”

James B. Miesse, Marion, received $200 in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Clinton Ewert, Marion, missed $20, Rosa Bosh, Marion, missed $10, Clyde Turner, Salina, missed $10, and Feebie Smith, Marion, received $5.

Bill Winkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Winkley of Marion, is now an active member of the Pershing Rifles at Kansas State University, Manhattan.

Spencer Bevan captured a snow-white opossum Friday evening in the driveway at Cedar Rest. He carefully penned the animal in a metal tub and placed hail screen over the top. The neighbor’s dog evidently didn’t approve of opossums being caged. He removed the hail screen and upset the tub, freeing the animal.
