County Commissioners Herb Hiebert and Ed Nicklaus and Engineer James Meisner went to Chicago Friday to attend a meeting and demonstration of road building machinery.

A beef cook-off contest sponsored by the Marion County “Cow Belles” for high school senior girls was held Saturday at the home economics room of Marion High School. All three finalists were from Marion. Delores Linn’s “lemon baked steak” was judged the winner. The two runners-up were Kay Amick and Sharon Youk.

Brenda Richmond and Becky and Jan Herrick spent Monday and Tuesday in Topeka as guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ward. While there, they acted as pages in the state House of Representatives.

Florence Kristek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kristek of Ramona, and a student at Saint Joseph College, Wichita, was crowned queen of the Sweetheart Ball there Feb. 15. Miss Kristek is completing her senior year as a student nurse at the college.

Bill Winkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Winkley, along other members of the Pershing Rifles of Kansas State, took part in the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. The boys marched nine miles carrying a nine-and-one-half-pound rifle. Of all the states entered in the parade, the unit from Kansas was the only group that did not drop out before finishing the parade.
