The 44th birthday of the American Legion will be celebrated in Marion Saturday with a banquet and dance in the clubrooms of James William Miesse Post No. 22.

The organizational meeting of a new Boy Scout troop for Marion is planned for Friday night, according to Bill Caselman who will be the Scoutmaster. All boys from 11 through 14 are eligible to become scouts.

The Dairy Queen will open this Friday, according to Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Schimpf, owners and operators. This marks the 11th season of operation of the Dairy Queen in Marion by the Schimpfs. They purchased the business from Ezra Bernhardt.

Den 3, Marion Cub Scouts, visited the Marion County Record and took a tour of the printing plant on Wednesday. The following boys were present: Mike Schwendiman, Brad Case, Mark Rathert, Kendall Helmer, Steven Widler, Dennis Helmer, Doug Marler, and Ricky Schwendiman.

Births reported at St. Luke Hospital this week include twins David Anthony and Douglas Glen, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Small of Florence; Ronald Dean, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Siebert, Marion; Craig Steven, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shanklin, Florence; David Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Rempel, Peabody; Catherine Lynn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Brinlee, Florence; and Dawn Karlene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rogers, Marion.
