The Rock Island Railroad is again attempting to discourage passenger service through Marion by asking permission to remove daytime service on Trains 27 and 28 that operate daily between Herington and Wichita. The Kansas Corporation Commission has set a hearing on May 16 and 17 on this application.

The Bown-Corby May Fete is scheduled for May 3 with the theme being “The Animal Fair.” Patti Vinduska will be Queen of May. Her consort is to be Freddie Nelson. Attendants to the queen will be Kathy Smolik, Scott Conyers, Ginger Lentz, Douglas Krause, Linda Goentzel, Mike Colgin, Roxann Helmer, Robert Cook, Rita Oller, Glen Bartel, Donna Douglas, and Richard Bowers. Cecilie Swain will carry the queen’s crown.

Ernie Barrett, assistant basketball coach at Kansas State University, will be the guest speaker at the annual athletic banquet to be held here next Monday.

Barbara Bailey and Susan Yeagley entertained all of the seventh grade girls at a backward birthday party April 20 at Susan’s home. When the girls arrived wearing their clothing on backward, they were greeted at the back door with “Goodbye.”

All youngsters in the community will want to see “Kolonel Keds” when he makes his official visit to Marion this Saturday. He will be at the Schonemen Shoe Store between 3:30 and 4:30 and all are invited to stop and visit with him.
