The Tom Hett family’s favorite cat, “Fancy Pants,” has been having extra responsibility these days — she is raising a family of baby squirrels along with a couple of her own kittens. This is nothing new for “Fancy Pants.” She once nursed a baby raccoon until it was large enough to take off on its own.

The senior class play, “Our Hearts Are Young and Gay,” will be presented two nights next week in the city auditorium. The 3-act play centers around the exciting experience of two young ladies, Cornelia Otis Skinner, portrayed by Jean Morse and Emily Kimbrough, played by Cheryl Caselman, and their trip to Europe.

The senior class at Marion High School has requested of the board of education that the bell from the old school building be moved to the football field. The class has asked to do this as a memorial. The bell would be used to toll scores at ball games. The request was granted.

The winners of the two “Kolonel Keds” tents at the drawing held Saturday night at Schoneman’s Shoe Store were Debra Heidel and Mike Bredemeier.

The Pilsen grade school children took part in the crowning of the Blessed Virgin Sunday afternoon at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. Rita Noone served as the May queen with Carol Jean Vinduska as crown bearer. Train bearers were Jane Vinduska and Diana Holub.
