The second session of the Red Cross-sponsored swim lessons started this week at Marion Municipal Pool. Donna Jost is the program director. Instructors are John Hoover, Mary Konarik, Nancy Klenda, Jean Morse, and Patty Longhofer. Assistant instructors or “helpers” are Blair Post, Larry Ensey, JoAnn Magee, Barbara Musgrave, LaVonda Hett and Tom Tucker.

Helen Olsen, 1963 Marion High School graduate, recently visited the KSTC campus in Emporia to complete enrollment for the September term. She plans to major in business.

Milford Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hett, recently received this private pilot’s license at Kansas State University. He received his instruction under the Flight Instruction Program in the advance program of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps. Upon graduation, Hett will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United State Air Force.

Donna Hanschu and Judy Broadstreet told of recent activities at Girls’ State in Lawrence Monday at the regular meeting of Kiwanis Club.

A dance for teenagers is scheduled for Saturday night at the Marion County Lake hall. The music will be a live orchestra, the Avontes. Local teenagers, who are promoting the dance, claim Avontes is a “rockin’ group.”
