Duckwall’s Variety Store in Marion is holding the grand opening of their new, enlarged store this Friday and Saturday. The store, located in the first floor of the Case building, has been more than doubled in size, enlarging it to the full 53 feet 10 inches of the front of the building. It is a major boost to Marion businesses in general.

A new, improved two-way police radio has been received by the City of Marion and will be installed in the city’s police cruiser in the near future. It will replace one that is worn out.

Cheryl Caselman and Patricia Funk have been named as candidates for the Marion County Fair Queen. Cheryl will represent the Marion Kiwanis Club and Patricia will represent the Marion Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Jeanette Colleen Russell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Russell of Marion, and John W. Rupp, son of Mrs. Walter Rupp, also of Marion, were united in marriage Aug. 11 at the Marion Christian Church. The Rev. Winston Worden performed the double ring ceremony.

Mrs. Robert E. Nelson entertained with a party Sunday afternoon honoring the birthdays of her three children. Rebecca’s birthday was Aug. 7, Richard’s, Aug. 9, and Robin’s will be Aug. 16. Guests were Kathy Kelsey, Melody and Rusty Meier, Paula Mayginnes, Debbie Heidel, J.D. Bauman, and Twila Hart.
