The first concrete step in the construction of the Marion Reservoir on the Cottonwood River northwest of the city was taken this week when county commissioners approved an Army Engineer project for relocation of a short portion of the Strassburg road.

Large crowds of highly complimentary visitors have been going through the fine new Duckwall’s Variety Store here since its grand opening last Friday and Saturday. Manager Bill Holmes reported almost capacity crowds on the opening days.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs. Edson Childs were hosts to a party in the basement of Marion City Building Aug. 14 honoring the 14th birthdays of their daughters, Marian and Marsha.

A lawn party honoring Patricia Longhofer, bride-elect of Richard McLinden, was held Aug. 16 at the home of Mrs. Homer Stenzel. Hostesses were Mrs. Stenzel and Mrs. John Brose.

The annual Hett reunion was held at the Marion waterworks park. First cousins are the closest relatives of this group. Cousins present were Conrad, John, August, Orville, Oscar, Gertrude, Louise, Irene and Frieda Hett, and Mrs. Edna Williams.

A busload of Marion “Pee Wee” ball players went to Wichita Wednesday to attend a game at the National Semi-Pro Tournament in progress there. The trip was sponsored by Cook Motor Company.
