Announcement is made this week that Mr. and Mr. Will Helmer have purchased the Dairy Queen store from Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Schimpf. The Helmers will take over operation on Sept. 1.

The popular style show staged by Van’s last year is being repeated this week by public request. The public is invited by Mr. and Mrs. Varenhorst to view the shows from inside their store, or from the street and sidewalk.

Anita Fay Hett celebrated her birthday Aug. 27 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Hett. Guests present were Rita Stika, Vickie Klassen, Patsy Wood, Gena Broz and Rita Kreutziger.

Mrs. Richard Schwartz was honored Tuesday morning at the Jack Helmer home with a coffee and a layette shower for her daughter, Peri Ann. The shower was given by Girl Scout Troop 130 and their mothers.

The Marion women’s softball team gained their fourth straight win Tuesday night with a 6-5 victory over Florence. Winning pitcher was Mary Ann Finke, who also hit safely twice to lead the field. All other players hit safely at least once. Those other Marion players are Beverly Pankratz, Harriet Bina, Mary Agnes Bina, Dorothy Widler, Donna Shirley, Saundra Miller, Sharon Kelsey, Jane Ann Bina, Pearl Helmer and Fern Frans. Bill Finke is the coach.
