Margene Savage of Florence is the 1963 Marion County Fair Queen. Margene, an attractive and talented junior at Kansas State University, was crowned by Marilyn Belton of Lost Springs, last year’s queen.

Mrs. John (Lucille) Britain has been appointed acting city clerk. She will replace Paul Morse who has resigned.

Five years ago, the RECORD carried a story about Al Holder’s 65 years in the barbering business in Marion. Al came to Marion in 1882 with his parents and has been here ever since. He started barbering at the age of 14 as an apprentice to his uncle. Today, at almost 85 years of age, Al is still going strong and at work each day at his barbershop.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Franta were pleasantly surprised Aug. 25 when their children, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Franta and girls and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Richmond and family had a supper at the Marion County Lake in honor of their 44th wedding anniversary.

Births reported at St. Luke Hospital this week included Donald Leroy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin E. Stovall of Peabody, born Aug. 30 and Paul David, son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Loney Jr., born Sept. 4.

Mary Kliewer, librarian, and Bob Suderman, two representative of Tabor College, were in Marion Tuesday. They took back with them, as a gift to the college, approximately 200 books from the L.F. Keller library.
