Marion city residents will have a choice of candidates for the office of commissioner of public utilities in the annual city election to be held April 7. On the ballot will be the names of Paul Keazer and Kenneth Rigler. Keazer is the incumbent.

Max Jackson, star Marion High athlete, came within a whisker, two-tenths of a second, of equaling the state record in the quarter mile last Saturday at the state indoor meet in Manhattan.

Mr. and Mrs. Levern Ottensmeier hosted a surprise birthday party Wednesday evening in the basement of Our Savior Lutheran Church honoring the 16th birthday of their son, Jim. Guests were Dennis Highsmith, Dennis and Dick Maggard, Garry Klose, Pat and Connie Warneke, Kathy and Henrietta Klein, Pam Domke, Mary Lou Rumpel, Charlotte Poppe, and Anita Ottensmeier.

The annual Junior Class play will be presented April 18 at the Marion City Auditorium. Cast for the World War II production, “The Diary of Anne Frank,” includes Dick Maggard, Sherry Knoblock, Connie Jost, Sherman Kelsey, Larry Ensey, Carol Caselman, Neva Kelsey, Anita Schick, Gary Babb, and Dennis Hett.

Earl Winter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Winter of Marion, is now stationed in Cuba aboard a destroyer on picket duty off the coast there.
