Heavy rain, hail, gusty winds, and at least one tornado on the ground visited parts of Marion County last Wednesday afternoon. The twister passed between the farm homes of Howard and Henry Collett, missed the Fred Hedstrom house, and from there went back into the clouds.

Pictured on the front page is Tom Poppe of Lincolnville, Marion County’s grade school spelling champion. Tom will represent the county in the state contest May 1 at Topeka.

Judy Broadstreet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Broadstreet, has been awarded a vocal music scholarship by Sterling College.

Kathy and Becky Coe entertained with a slumber party Saturday night at the A.J. Coe residence honoring Jackie Fender, who will be moving with her parents to Towanda. Others present were Katherine and Theresa Hornbeck and Janet Lawrence.

Cub Scouts attending the Cavalcade of Scouting at Wichita Sunday afternoon were David Hartman, Mike Colgin, Scott McGranor, Billy Finke, Tommy Howell, David Caselman, Leonard and Dennis Schafers, Jack Loomis, Chris Costello, Roger Hannaford, Donnie Smith and Jimmy Coe.
