Paul Shahan, Marion postmaster, announced this week his resignation effective June 19. He has been in the postal service here for more than 46 years.

Dorothy Lawrence, who has been working as a radio dispatcher in the sheriff’s office, has been hired to work in the Register of Deeds office.

Marion’s new modern water treatment plant went into operation today, Thursday.

Boyce Baumgardner, a recent graduate of KSTC, Emporia, has been hired by the Marion National Bank, according to Matthew Classen, president.

Belinda Kay Clothier was guest of honor at a party Tuesday afternoon for her sixth birthday. Guests present included Sonja Ewert, Yvonne Schmidt, Joanie Wiens, Neva Oller, Cheryl Lawrence, Barbara Boyle, Gary Boyle, Kelly Post, and Bradley Clothier.

Ralph Duane Kreutziger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kreutziger, Route 4, Marion, received his C.S. degree in industrial arts education at McPherson College on May 31.

Players on the Marion Babe Ruth team are Bernard Waner, Bob Elling, Dennis Highsmith, Neil Colle, Norman Alexander, 15-year-olds; Dennis Knoblock, Jay Woerz, Mike Wood, Charles Pankratz, Greg Stetler, 14-year-olds; and Jim Darrow, Gary Wiens, David McGinness, Myron Frans, Marc Hauser, 13-year-olds. Bill Darrow is the batboy.
