David A. Hanson of Emporia has purchased the Phillips 66 gasoline and oil business here, the S & S Oil Company, and has taken over the operation of the business. The current staff of the station will remain, including Allen Sangwin, Roland Klein, Max Carr Jr. and Dennis Conyers.

Pilsen and Ramona “beginners” are pictured on the front page doing flutter kicks in their first session of Red Cross swimming lessons at the Marion pool. Their instructors are Mary Konarik and Mary Agnes Bina. Other instructors are Helen Jackson, LaVonda Hett, Nancy Klenda, Judy Pankratz, Blair Post and Tom Tucker.

Citizen band radios, a relatively new development in the radio field, are increasing in number over this part of the country by leaps and bounds.

Miss Maude Thompson was host Saturday afternoon to nine children of the west third grade at Bown Corby School who had qualified for reading certificates from the University of Kansas reading program. Those receiving the certificates were Teresa Case, Edward Hett, Jeannie Widler, Theresa Turk, Patrick Heinz, Nancy Bennett Linda Goentzel, Diana Roberts and Debra Heidel.

Marjorie L. Gardner of Louisburg and Mick W. Summervill of Marion exchanged wedding vows in a double ring ceremony June 14 at the First Baptist Church, Louisburg.
