The days of the old “Grand Central Hotel” and the turn of the century are coming back to Marion next Tuesday night at the annual Community Guild banquet at St. Mark’s Activity Center on N. Cedar Street.
The S/Sgt. Charles R. (Bob) Druse family is “braced and waiting” for Hurricane Dora’s onslaught at their home in Savannah, Georgia, according to Bob’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Druse.
Charles Norris, head football coach at Marion High School, announces the annual “soap” game will be held Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
While fumigating grain, fumes ignited a serious farm fire that consumed a large combination machine shed and grain storage building on the Richard Balzer farm, north of Canada, Friday morning. Both Balzer and his friend, Paul Epp, received burns while fighting the fire and were hospitalized.
Dr. Earl Wood took first place in the Marion Country Club championship tournament over the Labor Day weekend.
Members of 20th Century Club report that the following newcomers to Marion have received Welcome Basket gifts this past week from the local chamber of commerce: Elsie Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Moore and children, Mr. and Mrs. John Markham, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hennigh and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Meisinger.
