Over-riding news of Election Night was the landslide victory that developed for President Lyndon Johnson. Kansas joined all but five of the 50 states in giving approval of his candidacy. It was a crushing defeat for Senator Barry Goldwater and his conservative program.

Robert LeTourneau, world- famous Christian businessman, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Marion City Auditorium. The meeting is sponsored by the Marion Ministerial Alliance.

The nation’s number one polka band for the ninth consecutive year, “Six Fat Dutchmen,” all 10 of them, is coming to Pilsen. They will perform in Frank Svitak’s Starlite Ballroom Nov. 12.

A bridal shower was held recently honoring Jeanne Carr, whose marriage to Robert V. Higgins of Denver occurred Oct. 18. Hostesses were Mrs. Gerald Kline, Mrs. Garry Vogel, Mrs. Don Berg, Mrs. William Carr, Mrs. Larry Burkholder, Deanna Kimball, Diana Goertz, Deanna Klenda and Sandra Jackson.

Marion High School graduate-athlete, Jon Schimpf, this week was one of three players at Coffeyville Junior College given the coveted “Red Helmet” award for their top-notch play this season. Jon, a sophomore, is a tackle on the CJC squad. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Schimpf.

Dick Robertson, Jerry Groening, Bob Raleigh, Ronnie Kreutziger, Chuck Bredemeier and Don Kraus attended the national FFA convention in Kansas City Oct. 15.
