Lucille Britain, Marion city clerk, has announced that the town will again offer an 80% discount for Christmas outside lighting at residences.

The Elgin Restaurant will reopen for business Saturday under new ownership with free coffee and donuts for all who drop in that morning to get acquainted.

Prize winners at the annual Legion Carnival held on Veterans’ Day were: Roy Stevenson, 30-cup percolator; Lois Raleigh, clock radio; Rose Zager, electric skillet; John Brose, shotgun; and Clint Ecker, television set.

The 50th anniversary of Athena Study Club was celebrated Nov. 17 at a luncheon in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Four charter members present were Mrs. A.L. Richardson, Mrs. Walter Siebert, Miss Sadie Keller, and Miss Viola Thompson, who has kept a continuous membership for the 50 years.

Mrs. Edson (Naomi) Childs, clerk in the local selective service office, was surprised Thursday afternoon when she was awarded a wall plaque from the Air Force. The award is a commendation for “devoted service in assisting the Air Force recruiting program.”
